The Bridge Inn, Grinton, N.Yorkshirewww.bridgeinn-grinton.co.uk/index.html
I've pasted the link to this fabulous spot, because it says it all-and with lots of lovely pictures, I hope it gives you a feel for this truly special part of the world.
We had a fabulous lunch there. I had the chicken, which reminded me of how nice chicken can be. Like most of us, I buy chicken on occasion from the chains, and really hadn't noticed how bland it is nowadays. The Swaledale chicken served here was a delicious burst of flavour, excellent texture-and a typical sized very large Yorkshire portion-unless, of course, it was actually 2 fillets! I chose to have it with new potatoes and salad, as opposed to veg-and how heartening to see the salad being freshly prepared. Brian had the gammon-and was a novel experience, being served with both egg and pineapple-but it worked for him!He had chips(of which I pinched a few), and they too were pretty perfect.
We were joined by the resident clown while we were eating, much to Rosie's horror disgust-and I'm sorry, Jo that we didn't have the camera to get you a photo. Timmy the pub kitten, was an Alfie lookalike, came and sat beside me, and cried pitifully to be fed. Brian was a soft touch, and shared a bit of his gammon, but the chicken was mine, all mine!
A lovely spot for a lovely meal-lots of choice too, as you can see if you take a look at the menu. Very tempting though the desserts sounded, we had to pass, as the portions are so generous. Loved too the sound of a couple of the starters-the black pudding and the pear strudel, and seriously considered having a few starters instead of a main course.Maybe next time!
