Poached eggsI have never tried to make poached eggs before (used to have them when I lived at home but now only have boiled or fried) but I fancy poached egg on toast today, so does anybody know how to cook them without it turning out wrong please?!
I did a search on the internet and there are so many different methods, I just want a simple one that actually works!

I use my own eggs to they are very fresh which makes them hold together better ! shallow pans are best have the water on a rolling boil, just crack the egg in, I cook up to 20 at a time like this when helping Hubby out by cooking breakfast for the outdoor centre he runs ,sometimes if they are not very fresh the yolk and white sometimes seperate just use them in sandwiches ! enjoy

I have a poacher now so very easy but before that I used to do mine in the microwave. Butter a small cup or glass and put the egg in there, either pin prick the yolk or cover with a piece of cling film... put on a low setting and keep an eye on it while in the microwave. I had a few that exploded which makes a right mess of the inside of the microwave!
I've never been able to do them in swirling water though...

Apparently a splash of vinegar the swirling water method helps the white stay together. Used to do this and it seemed to work.

Do you have to keep the water boiling while you do it or are you meant to let it cool/take it off the heat?
I will maybe try to do one later for my tea, thanks everyone!

the rolling boil helps keep the egg together ! I never put anything in the water some say salt some say vinegar, others let the egg stand in boiling water before cooking to help set the egg white, I never do any of these so can't advise, hope you enjoy your egg

keep pan boiling, little salt, little white vinegar-should come out a treat within 5-6 mins sometimes little less...beautiful-my fave type of egg-especially with cheese sauce ,a croute and a little bit of fresh spinach lightly sauteed.....
