Packed Lunches Help

Michael has asked if he can have packed lunches at school now, but i don't know what kind of things to give him to make it interesting. The school dinners were really nice so I'm surprised he wants to change. The school don't allow any unhealthy food, so no crisps, chocolates etc.

I can only think of sandwiches!

Tubs of pasta or salad.
Fresh fruit salad.
Tortilla wraps as an alternative to sandwiches

Unfortunately the basics are limited, but there's a lot of variations you could add in terms of fillings.

Am always shocked though, at the price of buying individual tubs/packets of snacks. I used to make up portions of jelly and fruit, rather than buying the fruitini type of things you see in supermarkets.

Portions of cheese with savoury biscuits are good in the summer too. Some lovely savoury biscuits on the market nowadays too. If this is an option, Lakeland do a useful "biscuits for one" small plastic container which you might find handy.

I found this book really good, The Ladybook Cookbook - Packed Lunches. It is an old book I used when my children were at school over 20 ayears ago so not sure whether it is still available

But for a start here are some sandwich fillings from it.
Honey; Apple and Date; Liver Sausage, Cheddar Cheese and Tomato; Fish Paste and Cress; Beef Spread with Mustard; Pate and Lettuce; Ham and Cucmber; Chicken with Bread Sauce; Egg with Salad Cream; Egg and Marmite; Leicester Cheese and Cream; Pork and Stuffing with Apple Sauce; Salmon with Cream Cheese and Lemon Juice; Double Gloucester Cheese and Chutney; Peanut butter with blackcurrant jam, Banana with Strawberry jam, Sardines and Tomato with Worcester Sauce; Cottage Cheese and Orange Marmalade; Tuna Fish with Lemon Juice and Salt and Pepper; Beef with Horseradish Sauce; Turkey with Cranberry Sauce; Cream Cheese with chopped peanuts;

I haven't finished yet..............I lost the info last time, so post this first....watch this space.

OOh I had a brilliant packed lunches poster from First mag ages ago, will see if I still have it. I don't think I chucked it out. It had packed lunch ideas from the likes of Jamie Oliver, Tana Ramsay, et al.
