October 2007 Grocery ChallengeAs I'm a member of MSE I thought I'd post this... I am joining in this month and thought that some of you on here might like to have a go. You don't have to join MSE, maybe we could start our own on here...??

As promised I am joining in this month... I am now without a debit card and a car so shopping is a problem, so for this month (until I get my PAYG credit card) I have borrowed Mum's debit card to do my shopping online at Tesco.
This month my budget is a guess (£175) for just me and my cat, but I hope this will also cover lunches at work which I always struggle with as I can't eat bread very often.
I just did my first shop and made it quite a big one, managed to get a voucher from here - http://www.hotukdeals.com/main.html for £10 off £70 so my shopping was £60!! My cupboards and freezer are still reasonably stocked so I'm hoping this shop will last me a few weeks...
Good luck everyone, will be watching this thread for tips!

My online shop just arrived and my cupboards are now heaving with food, so is my freezer!!! It should last me at least 3 weeks... will just need to buy bread and milk as and when, although I am planning on using my breadmaker more this month!

You used my card
Good Luck.....I won't be doing this, since we'll be having guests for at least 2 weeks of the month.....so my food bill will hit the roof again.
Although, I could feed them on pumpkins, chestnuts, runner beans, eggs and chicken. Hmmm, not bad...maybe I will

Need to update my signature for this... I know I am very close to the budget, luckily Dad gave me £5 so I may just last till the end of today, although Alfie needs food... maybe I'll buy him one tray and get him some more tomorrow!

I think you'll have done really well if you kept to the budget Jo...it's not always easy when you are out working long hours.

Can you bulk out his food with scraps from your meal? Our cat used to eat veg mashed in with her food and picked bits of meat off bones and she lived until 17 years plus.

Unfortunately Alfie doesn't do human food apart from tuna... bit weird but I think I taught him well when he was a kitten. I have bought big tins today which are cheaper and last longer, hopefully he'll eat them.
Anyway the total for this month was £179.46 in the end, so slightly over but not too bad!
