November 2007 Grocery Challenge

Here's the MSE link - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=585517

My budget this month is £150!! I wonder if I can do it... q9
Nannyp

Well done Jo...why have you set yourself a harder target when you went over slightly this month?
MissMuppet

Coz the idea is to reduce your budget, to live on as little as possible... I just need to be more disciplined with what I buy this month!
Nannyp

q9 I hope it goes well......and eventually you'll be living on £50 per month q5
Davbro

I hope you succeed this month Jo, it was not so far out last month.
MissMuppet

I really need to start making some more batch stuff as I seem to be running out... Better get my slow cooker flex sorted out so I can do them in there. q21
dingsy

Might actually be easier to stay on budget (although you did well to get so close last month), in colder months. If you make batches of home made soup, it costs very little, and can use up any surplus veg which is getting past it's best.Good luck!
MissMuppet

I've been a muppet (as my name suggests), have overspent on my social life so my food will be well under my budget this month!!!!! q8

I have a massive bag of pasta which I bought when I was unemployed and I also bought tinned tomatoes (chopped and plum) on BOGOF so will be living on pasta and tomato sauces for the rest of the month... Luckily I have stuff to spice it up a bit, like garlic etc...

I do have some frozen chicken too and some mince so I just need to make sure I am conservative with my cooking and eating!
Nannyp

What chicken have you got? How much and what are you planning to cook with it?
q9
MissMuppet

I am making chicken korma tonight with 2 breasts, I usually get 3 servings out of this as I add mushrooms and currants...

I still have 2 breasts left, or I might have a stray one somewhere too! Not sure what I'll make with the rest, I still have another korma jar in the cupboard...
Nannyp

Hopefully that'll keep you going then.
You'll have to stop cooking for Daniel, as that will be using your food up more quickly!
MissMuppet

Yeah I know... have told him today that he can either have pasta or bring his own! q5
