Jo's Freezer Challenge

My freezer needs defrosting so my aim is to empty it over the next couple of weeks.  I don't know how I am going to afford to refill it but I'll get over that hurdle at the time...

So this is what I have in it at present:

Chips (1 portion left)
Potato wedges (probably 1 portion)
Bag of uncooked king prawns or similar
Peas
Sausages
Nan bread
3 steak & kidney pies (possibly with freezer burn?!)
Butternut squash risotto
Tub of redcurrants
2 lots of chicken stock
Soup - can't remember what flavour (may have been the one I forgot to take bay leaf out from)
2 tubs of chilli con carne
4 pork chops
2 cooked chicken legs
3 2 tubs of spaghetti bolognese
2 random tubs (can't remember what they are!)
Figs
2 tubs of pasta (can't remember what sort)
2 wedges of spanish omlette
Pastry (in French so not sure what sort, it says Brisee!)

Ok that's it, do you reckon I can empty it by next pay day, 31st March?!  Oh god that's ages away!  q9

I reckon you've got the basis for about 25 meals there,if you add in fresh veg. That's allowing as well for another 4 portions of soup from the stock.

(I also forget to label containers of soup, thinking it'll be obvious what's in them when I need them. But it can be quite tricky trying to figure out what type of soup it is when frozen. Brian was not impressed when the lentil soup (his favourite), that he was looking forward to having a few weekends ago, turned out to be butternut squash and sweet potato soup!)

Sounds like a good plan Jo, and I am sure it won't take long for you to begin to fill it again, after shopping day.

I also have cupboard stuff to add to this, but as it's just the freezer than needs defrosting I will try not to over do it... I guess I'll still need to buy bits and pieces to make proper meals.  q5

I'd be tempted to hold onto the stock unless you really need to use it. I never actually run my freezer completely down anyway-just defrost when necessary, and put the food back. It doesn't take long to do, and saves running the freezer on empty until you're able to restock.

Oh I forgot to say I have a little freezer compartment I can use in my fridge just to keep some stuff frozen while I defrost it... so I will keep some stuff in there!

The stuff I've eaten is highlighted in red!
