Growing your own mushroomshttp://www.gourmetmushrooms.co.uk/index.htm
A great website and it means you can enjoy all sorts of wonderfully fresh mushrooms straight from your own garden. I know I'll be buying some Shitake soon to take over to France with me. Has anyone else tried this company or have you grown your own exotic mushrooms?

From what I gather all you need is a piece of oak and someone to drill holes in it for you - then after xxxx weeks/months bobs your uncle - you have mushrooms. There are other types they have to offer but all with the same sort of growing techniques. It seems Vanessa has already bought some but she tells me her plugs are still in the fridge (ooppps)

I grew ordinary ones in the cupboard under the stairs. The first lot were fine, but then they attracted tiny black flies and the maggots of which ate the next crop, so I gave up. I grew some shitakes on a pre-spored log which had to be kept in a dish of water. They were so beautiful to watch growing, I just let them get bigger and bigger. We must have eaten them eventually though but I can't remember now.
