Chocolate FountainsHas anyone wondered how hygienic these things are?
I took my dad for his hospital appointment and they had a health fair going on, so while he was 'being done' I mooched around and got my blood pressure checked - but there was a stand with one of these things on, advertising their hire.
On the table were dishes of cubes of fruit and mini doughnuts etc which people could dip in the chocolate fountain and eat. Now I remember an investigation some time ago, which said that the nibbles on pub bars were typically heaving with bacteria including e-coli and various urine traces - and this was in a hospital with who-knows-what additional bugs floating around.
But that wasn't the worst - I wondered about that chocolate being circulated around that fountain and what germs were in the atmosphere!! People sneezing, putting fingers in the chocolate and the chocolate going around and around, picking up bugs for hours on end.
No, unless you know better - I'm thinking they're a bit of a health hazard.
