Can I freeze french beans?A colleague at work has given me a load of french beans today, although they look like runner beans to me... are they the same?
Anyway she suggested I freeze some, what do you think?
I was going to have some with dinner tonight and freeze them in batches for other times...

Blanche for a few minutes and they should be fine. If you dry them thoroughly before freezing it'll help too.

What does blanche mean Elaine?

So will I need to do that before freezing them? Can I not just shove them in the freezer as they are?! Lazy me...
My other avatar was annoying me, it seems too pale, I needed some colour!

'fraid shoving them in the freezer won't work. Won't take long to do, and when you need them you'll be glad you made the effort.
(Agree with Sparky about you avatar-bring back the chocolate!)

The science bit![quote="MissMuppet"]So will I need to do that before freezing them? Can I not just shove them in the freezer as they are?! Lazy me...
Blanching veg before freezing kills the enzymes that makes food age so the food stays fresher and keeps the vitamins from deteriorating.

Love your avatar Hec AND Jo's new one! It's going to get confusing if they are changing all the time though
