Cafe des Amis - Canterbury (revisited)

Myself and Dan went here again last night, I thought I needed to give it another chance after not really liking the meal much last time. The table was booked for 7 although Dan was a bit late because he couldn't find a car parking space... while I waited I had a large glass of Merlot!

When Dan arrived the service seemed to be lacking a bit, most of the staff were clearing tables and not really taking much care of the people at tables. Anyway finally (after about 20 mins of waiting) our orders were taken.

For starter we chose Antojitos for 2, this was - Mixed starters including serrano ham, smoked duck breast, chorizo, duck pate, dos equis cheese fondue, mango salsa, olives, grilled vegetables, guacamole, pickles and bread. It was really nice, quite a lot but we managed to eat the whole lot!!

For main we chose Steak Fajitas for 2.... the steak was cooked perfectly, I made a right mess with my first one. The only slight complaint was the steak was cut into big pieces so was difficult to fit in a small tortilla! I had a couple of bits of steak on their own though, they were melt in the mouth...

For dessert Dan had a coffee and I had Strawberry sorbet again, it was lovely, it had some little biscuit type things with it which were really tasty.

All in all a better visit than last time, the food was a lot better... The bill came to £55 I think for the 2 of us, but I did have 2 large glasses of wine this time. q12

That sounds better Jo...and I think that the length of time you waited is about normal. It's not a fast food place and sometimes people just want a bit of time to get comfortable and chat before getting down to eating. Maybe if youre not so hungry next time, it won't feel like such a long wait q5

I wasn't too bothered but they hadn't offered Dan a drink when he arrived so I think he was the inpatient one... I was fine with my wine! q9

We just love Fajitas and have homemade ones about once a week (not always the same day of the week), very hot (peppery hot) and spicy.
We found this year that in Cyprus close to our hotel there was a new Mexican restaurant (Poco Loco), so we had a couple of meals there and they were very good.
