Brown's Restaurant and Bar, Leicester Square

I went here today with my friend, we got there about 1.30pm and it was pretty busy. It's a huge place but unfortunately a little cramped and it's difficult to navigate round the tables and chairs.

The staff were very friendly, there were lots of them so no chance of not being seen to quickly. I ordered a large glass of wine and my friend ordered a bloody mary...

The menu looked delicious, so much to choose from. We skipped starters and went straight for the main course. I ordered a rib eye steak and chips and Rachel ordered haddock and chips. I asked for my steak to be medium and I must admit it was more rare which wasn't too bad but was a little chewy. I think Rachel's fish was ok although the batter looked quite pale.

For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream which was really nice, but quite sickly and Rachel had ice-cream with a chocolate cookie.

The bill came to £43 which Rachel paid as a treat, felt quite embarrassed as I had chosen more expensive dishes than her.

I think I would choose something else next time but would definitely return, the service was friendly and quick.

The Browns chain of Restaurants are good, I haven't been to the one in Leicester Square, but have visited the one in Cambridge and the one in Covent Garden (ish) quite a bit. We have always had a good meal. We also like the atmosphere in the ones we have been to.

Shows what these chains (in this case part of Mitchells and Butlers) can do when they put their mind to it!

Regards,

White

(PS I like their rib-eyes too.)

You've just given me an idea... having to set-up a meet in London soon so maybe we'll go back to Brown's, afterall it was rather nice! q3

Ooo yeah forgot to do the other review! q5

We arrived about 25 mins late and luckily they had kept our table which was a relief as it was packed!! We all started off with a cocktail, I had a strawberry and chocolate martini which was lovely...

For food I chose the rack of lamb in a redcurrant sauce with dauphinoise(sp?) potatoes and brocolli... The others had fish and chips, and also one pasta with chorizo in tomato sauce. We ordered one white and one red bottle of wine too...

For dessert I had the plum tart tatin which was nice, can't remember what the others had but it disappeared pretty quickly!! q21

Had a lovely time and the food and service was great as before... the bill came to £150 between 5 of us which I thought was quite good seeing as though we had cocktails and wine!

Sounds great-and incredibly reasonable, especially for London. The lamb sounds mmmmmmm, too(probably my favourite)

Glad to hear that the standards remain high. We made the Covent Garden one on 13th Oct, and had another excellent meal.

I think this one I've been to is the Covent Garden one, the reason I said Leicester Square is because I think it's closer to there than Covent Garden... q5

You are absolutely right, when I look at it on the map. However, we are usually coming at it on foot from Covent Garden itself, and the website address calls it Covent Garden too.

(Sorry, I'm most definitely not a Londoner!)

Best wishes,

White.
