Britalia - Retford, Nottinghamshire

Managed to find the old forum - so have copied this across:

I've been going to the Britalia for over 20 years now, it is run by Frank and his wife and the menu is exactly the same as always. The place is always packed so you can tell the food is good

Unpretentious real Italian food.

Arrived tonight to be greeted by Frank with kisses on both cheeks and half a litre of red wine for me and a bottle of Peroni for Martin.

Garlic and tomato pizza bread appeared within 10 minutes of sitting down.

Martin ordered prawn cocktail which was full of really juicy prawns with just enough Marie Rose sauce and a good helping of salad. I had mussels in tomato and garlic sauce - 6 plump and juicy mussels in shells with a great sauce and a slice of rustic bread.

Main course : Martin had Calzone : folded pizza with a bit of everything covered with tomato sauce and melted cheese. It was packed with ingredients and his plate was soon clear. I ordered Fillet Steak, medium rare. This arrived with sauted potatoes and salad, really lovely steak, that melted in the mouth, although I would have preferred it just a little pinker.

For dessert we shared a tiramasu as I just couldnt manage a whole pud myself, this was home made and delicious - though not as good as Martins!

Two cappacinos to finish. Total bill was £48.50 - fantastic value and would recommend to anyone. I am still a bit tipsy so please forgive any mistakes!
