Brasserie Gerard - OxfordI went here on Saturday evening, we walked in off the street so didn't book a table in advance. We had to wait for a table for half an hour but we were able to sit at the small bar and have a drink until the table became available.
We were seated in a little corner of the restaurant which was very romantic and away from all the others, it was near the kitchen hatch but this was fine.
The menu was quite big, lots of choice... they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We chose the 3 courses for £14.50 menu which looked lovely, we both chose the Coquille St Jacques (scallops) for starters which were very yummy. For main I had the rump steak (there was a £3 surcharge for this) with fries and a bernaise sauce, it was the best rump steak I've ever tasted I think... no fat and done exactly how I like it. Matt chose the Moules in a white wine sauce, he soon polished those off, the sauce was interesting but very nice. For dessert I had creme brulee, and Matt had strawberry sorbet, again both delicious.
The bill came to £50 which included 2 large glasses of rose wine, a couple of orange juices, some garlic bread and the main food. It was very reasonable, and the food was of a very high quality.
I found out yesterday that the restaurant is a chain, here's the link - http://www.brasseriechezgerard.co.uk/ - and they have one in Canterbury, I expect we'll be trying it out soon as I also have a £10 off voucher!
