Boxwood Cafe, London

MOH and I ate here on a stopover on our way to Italy, and I have to say I was very impressed!

The place was lovely, the dining room very warm and friendly. The welcome from the maitre d' was excellent. We were shown to our table very promptly and our order taken with the minimum of fuss. The sommelier was extremely helpful, and not in the least bit condescending as some of them can be.

The meal was superb and I cannot fault a single thing. MOH had foie gras parfait to start which was wonderfully rich and creamy, and I had grilled queen scallops which were perfectly cooked and utterly delicious. Our mains were braised lamb and rib-eye steak respectively and these too were wonderful, juicy tasty lamb and one of the tenderest steaks I've ever had. Dessert was a raspberry fool and a trio of dainty little ice cream cones.

All in all, it was a wonderful meal and the staff were very friendly and efficient without being overbearing. Yes, it was expensive, but as a special treat, you'd find this hard to beat!

Is this one of Gordon's Tel? Or Stuart Gillie? I can't remember but I know it's meant to be nice, glad you had a good time.

Better start saving if I wanna eat here... q9

Yes, Gordon is the chef patron of this one but you're right, Stuart Gillies is the head chef and he's done a great job in my opinion. So we can say that we've eaten in one of Gordon's restaurants (my mum was EVER so impressed!!)

One of the nicest things about the cafe is that the dress code is casual -you're free to dress up a smartly as you like but they won't turn you away if you're in a t-shirt and chinos.

Sounds good... maybe Daniel will take me one day! [hint hint]

I must be reading/watching too much stuff about food, now I know who is head chef at places! q5
