Bolognaise sauceIs it allowed to freeze the sauce you get in jars. For some recipes we really only need half a jar and waste the rest, it would be great if we were able to freeze it.

I have frozen home made bolognaise sauce before, ie. with all the meat etc. in it, but not the sauce alone.

You can freeze anything that has not been frozen before, also if you use frozen raw meat if you cook it it can then be frozen as you have changed the nature of it but then it must not be re frozen again, hope this makes sense

Why not make a batch of your own sauce it would cost a fraction of the jar very easy to make basically a chopped onion fried and some mushrooms if you want, tin chopped tomatoes or if you prefer smoother sauce passata but that will increase the price and a tsp sugar to take away the acid taste, Herbs de provence just a pinch, garlic or garlic powder and a stock cube if you use a veggie one you can then use the sauce with any meat ie mince, chicken or ham if you want a creamy sauce for a change add some creme fraiche then season I only use black pepper as I do not use much salt :) you should end up with double the quantity of the Jar for about 1/4 to 1/3 the price freeze in the quantity you need
you could also add peppers if you want

I bought a jar of passata on Saturday, used a bit of it and put it in a couple of containers and froze the rest... it even said on the jar that you could!

I too use passata-then I can add in whatever we fancy, or whatever needs used.

We use: Onion, red pepper, garlic, mushroom, chopped tomatos, tomator puree, baked beans and meat, which reduces down to a lovely meaty sauce :)
