The Tavernelle is quoted as being probably the oldest restaurant in Rome.  Visitors to the restaurant include (the late) His Holiness John Paul II, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Sophia Loren - photos of all the famous visitors adorn the restaurant's walls.

When I visited I had "Ossobuco con funghi", sadly my translation skills were not really up to the job.  I really enjoyed the veal but probably wouldn't have chosen it had I translated it effectively!  The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively with a large (and noisy) family group of Italians, at adjacent tables sat French and German tourists mingling happily with local Nuns.

For dessert, I had "La Dolce Vita" - Omaggio a Fellini.  As you may have guessed because The Tavernelle supplies much of the food to the Italian film industry, it paid homage to Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita with the dessert.  Again, a great delight to the tastebuds.

The winelist was reasonable and to be honest only cost us 91euro in all ! so very happy.  Would recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.
