You know that exasperated feeling when you just snap "Oh, for goodness sake" or words to that effect.

Well, Him Indoors, wanted to open a bottle of wine the other evening, and took one from the bottom of the rack. I don't know how he did it, but the rack then threatened to collapse so I had to leave the cooking and find an unstored bottle to replace the removed one.

He then managed to mangle the corkscrew so that the push-down lever arms wouldn't push down. (How - I really don't know, but the arms weren't even symmetrically level).  He then brute-force pulled the corkscrew out, completely shearing the cork, and scattering bits everywhere.

At this point, I took over and put the corkscrew into a different part of the cork and, without using the lever arms, held the bottle while he eased the cork out, he jiggled it about so much, the flippin 'screw' snapped off leaving in firmly embedded in the cork!
I eventually found an ancient, fold-up travel corkscrew (in the dreaded kitchen gadget drawer) and managed to remove what was left of the cork, circumventing the damage and the embedded metal.

Fortunately, the wine and the meal were rather good.
