| Does anyone know what foods/supplements/herbal teas, etc, would be beneficial to help kidneys after a kidney infection? All I can find is nettle tea to help with cleansing, but imagine there must be other things which would help? |

better late than never - I found this Elaine
| Quote: | Habitually many people ignore thirst signals and ultimately pride themselves that they can go all day without drinking much at all. Younger children, especially girls, may be reluctant to use the school toilets and therefore learn to hold on throughout the day. Others drink nothing but caffein, tannin or highly chemical sugar drinks as a matter of routine and do not provide any useable fluid to the kidneys even though their intake may be large enough in volume terms. Still others drink nothing but fruit juices in the belief that they are healthier than water.
Pure Orange and Apple Juice, although high in vitamin C, are also very acidic, and too much of such strongly acid fluid will upset the chemistry of the fluids in your system and overload the kidneys as well.
Plain water should form the largest part of your daily fluid intake. Further, that there are a wide range of herbal teas (beyond regular tea and coffee) which contribute to kidney health rather than detract from it as do tea and coffee. The best of these herb teas is Rosehips Tea which on its own will often reverse even severe kidney problems.
The herbal mix I have made up to deal with urinary tract infections and which is a very safe and simple home remedy to be taken (along with copious amounts of water and/ or Rosehips Tea) at the first signs of any UTI, contains the herbs:- Alfalfa, Buchu, Dandelion, Echinacaea, Garlic, Rosehips, Uva Ursi and Yarrow along with the Bach Flowers Rescue Remedy and Wild Rose. |

Thanks Hec-useful information.
I was asking on behalf of one of Jennifer's friends, who had several infections in a short space of time. However a scan she has subsequently had has come back ok, and now her gp is convinced that she's yet another who suffers from ibs!!! So I might yet be back to you for more advice! I've forwarded this to her anyway-her fluid intake is poor, and there's also a high occurence of diabetes in her family, so some dietary fine tuning would be in order. (I feel semi-reponsible for her as she's moved down from Scotland to houseshare here with Jen-and I'm known as "Mummy no 2"!!) |

check the cinammon post for the pre diabetic stuff!!!
Re IBS - I hope I will soon be an expert! am doing a lot of research this week - I start my job on Monday - and finding out about all sorts of things. IBS is one of those very individual syndromes and there is certainly no 'one size suits all answer. _________________ http://positivechange.myfreeforum.org/ |

I have heard Milk Thistle is good for hangovers so maybe would be beneficial? Think you can get it in health food shops |
